If you want the actors to focus more on you, you're better off visiting during the week. There will be less of a crowd and more than likely less actors. The actors there will have more energy to focus in on scaring you since they haven't had to work very hard the whole night.
If you like to see more actors at a haunt, then visit during the weekend since many haunts use child actors they are off school and have many hours to waste.

The majority are open starting in late September or early October and don't close for the season until late October or early November. There are few haunts that are open year round, but as always call ahead or check a haunts website to make sure they are open. Can haunts get rained out?
Yes, especially haunted trails and hayrides. If it's raining and you know a haunt either takes place outside or has an outdoor element to it, please call to see if they are still open. Many haunts will say if they are closed on the websites, but many won't.

Yes, the majority of haunts are safe, but if you ever feel that something doesn't seem right never enter into a haunt. It's just not worth it. If a haunt has you sign a waiver to enter, this is probably a good sign that they don't have insurance.

Are church haunts scary?
